Rhythms of Grace~Part 2 Shelf Self-Effort
Are you exhausted from trying to fix yourself?
Trying harder.
Doing more.
Pushing through.
Thinking that if you just work a little harder, pray a little longer, or try a little more... you'll finally become who you're supposed to be.
But what if the thing wearing you out isn't life?
What if it's self-effort?
Jesus said:
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out? Come to me."
Not:
"Try harder."
Not:
"Do better."
Not:
"Get your act together first."
Many of us start our relationship with God by faith...
Then spend the rest of our lives trying to finish it through our own effort.
That's exactly what Paul challenged in Galatians:
"After beginning by the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by human effort?"
In this message, we explore:
✅ The difference between effort and self-effort
✅ Why trying harder often leaves us feeling defeated
✅ How self-effort creates cycles of guilt, shame, and frustration
✅ What Mary and Martha teach us about living in God's rhythm
✅ How grace changes the way real transformation happens
Self-effort says:
"Push the car uphill."
Grace says:
"Turn the engine on."
Faith still moves.
Action still matters.
But now you're moving with God's strength instead of your own.
Maybe you've been trying to overcome an addiction.
Maybe you've been trying to fix your marriage.
Maybe you've been trying to become a better version of yourself.
The question isn't:
"Are you trying hard enough?"
The question is:
"Are you trying to do it alone?"
Jesus isn't inviting you into a harder life.
He's inviting you into a different rhythm.
A rhythm where grace does what effort never could.
